Gatherer was commissioned by the Australian Music Vault to tell the story of Punk Gunk, a free concert on the streets of Carlton now synonymous with the emergence of the Melbourne punk and New Wave music scene.

The year was 1977 and music was about to change forever.  A generation that had grown tired of Australian pub rock and major label music decided to start a truly independent music scene.

To tell the story of Punk Gunk: the birth of punk, Gatherer worked with musicians, music critics,  industry insiders and curators to uncover original photos, super 8 films, music publications and incredible personal archives. Featuring Gavin Quinn from NEWS/Babeez; Mick Harvey from The Boys Next Door; music journalistt Clinton Walker and punk-scene devotee Julianne Wiffen; Punk Gunk provides a unique perspective of this seminal moment in Australian music.
