Unknown Journeys was a video installation commissioned by Cardinia Shire Council to showcase the cultural diversity of its residents and highlight their stories.

The Unknown Journeys exhibition coincided with the relaunch of Cardinia Cultural Centre's new state of the art contemporary gallery and artist rehearsal studios complex in Pakenham.

Located 50 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, Cardinia Shire is one of Australia’s fastest growing local government areas. As Melbourne's population has increased, many of the small towns, farmland and communities that make up Cardinia Shire are rapidly transitioning into urban areas with culturally diverse populations. Over 150 different nationalities live in Cardinia Shire.

The dancers in Unknown Journeys hailed from Koo Wee Rup, a township located in the southern part of Cardinia Shire Council located at the top of Western Port Bay.

This incredible group of women were filmed as part of a 10-week contemporary dance program for seniors run by choreographer and dancer Gulsen Ozer. In collaboration with Ozer, Gatherer created sequences specifically for presentation across multiple screens in an immersive video installation at Cardinia Cultural Centre. The women of Koo Wee Rup embraced the idea and graciously allowed us to capture them cutting up the dancefloor and their fun-loving attitude to life.
